David J. Cherochak, 63, of Hooksett, passed away on January 16, 2012 at the Elliot Hospital.
He was born in Bridgeport, CT on July 18, 1948, the son of Joseph and Monica (Hudzik) Cherochak. He attended Jessup High School in Jessup, PA and was a graduate of the University of Scranton. As a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps, he was a Vietnam combat veteran with the 1st Marine Division, receiving the National Defense Service Medal and other commendations for his service to our nation. For 33 years, he was an accountant with the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, DC until his retirement in 2010. He lived in Gaithersburg, MD until moving to NH in October 2011. He enjoyed deer hunting and being a home chef. He was a life member of the VFW and member of the American Legion and the Vietnam Veterans of America.
Family members include his wife of 25 years, Gail (Vermilyea) Cherochak; a daughter, Amber Lockwood and her husband John of OH; a brother, Joseph Cherochak, Jr. of SC; a sister, Catherine Krzan and her husband Bernard of PA; and nephews, nieces and cousins.
A private memorial service will take place at the convenience of the family. Urn burial with military honors will be held this spring in the NH State Veterans Cemetery.
