Obituary to follow.Christopher P. Murphy III, 61, of Concord, NH passed away on January 21, 2012 after a brief illness. He was born in Fall River, MA on January 30, 1950. He was the son of the late Christopher P. Murphy Jr. and Mary Grace (Gillespie) Murphy.
Upon graduation from the Franklin Institute of Technology, Chris worked for many years as a surveyor in the Boston area. He recently retired from General Electric after 25 years of service and leaves many great friends there. Chris loved to spend endless hours riding his motorcycle with his friends in the mountains. He was a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam era and a recipient of the National Defense Service Medal. Chris was member of the Deerhead Sportsman Club in Hooksett, NH. He leaves many dear friends there, also. He loved to watch the History Channel and truly enjoyed antiques and collecting. Chris loved New Hampshire and embodied the state motto "Live Free or Die".
Chris leaves behind his sister Patricia Murphy and her companion Dr. Cynthia Stack of Chicago, IL; brother David Murphy, sister-in-law Melinda Murphy and niece Mary Aidan Murphy; sister Jane Pohl, her companion Stephen Gravel and niece Jessica Pohl; sister Jean Murphy, all of Portsmouth, RI and nephew, A1C Daniel Alexander of Nellis AFB, Las Vegas, NV. Chris also leaves behind a great friend and wonderful caretaker, Donna Andrews of Manchester, NH and her companion Scott; and an uncle, aunts, many cousins and friends.
An hour of gathering will be held from 1:00-2:00pm on Friday, January 27th at Phaneuf Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 243 Hanover Street in Manchester, NH. A memorial service will follow at 2:00pm at the funeral home. Christopher's urn will be interred at the New Hampshire State Veteran Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute / Jimmy Fund
